This project is located in Unit H01-01 of PDC1-0401 in the Lingang New Area of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone. It is the inaugural project of the World Leading Scientist Community (WLA Science Community). The architecture unfolds like wings to the city, abstractly capturing the gesture of ready to fly. The undulating solar glass photovoltaic roof integrates seamlessly with the building, expressing the vision of "spreading the wings of the future and gathering the light of technology".

>>Energy Consumption Control

Energy consumption control begins with the creation of the design concept, such as calculating the building shape coefficient, comparing the window-to-wall ratio and designing external shading for different orientations. While ensuring indoor and outdoor comfort and building quality, it also considers architectural aesthetics and technical science, ultimately achieving the standards of green building, ultra-low energy consumption. The design incorporates different room functions into the architectural facade design, especially in the guest room section. It considers the natural lighting and visual comfort requirements of star-rated hotels while meeting the requirements for reducing air conditioning load and energy consumption in ultra-low energy buildings.

In addition to climate-responsive design, high-performance building envelope and efficient MEP systems, the highlight of achieving ultra-low energy consumption in this project is the integration of photovoltaics. Based on the overall architectural design, 16,140 pieces of cadmium telluride solar glass materials of different sizes (approximately 14,000 m²) are installed on the metal roof of the conference center and the skylight roof of the hotel podium. This not only provides insulation but also maximizes solar energy absorption, achieving maximum photovoltaic power generation. With an installed capacity exceeding 1.3 MW, the estimated annual electricity generation is about 1.4 million kWh, leading to a reduction of over 1,300 tons of carbon emissions annually. "We calculated that the overall building energy consumption has been reduced by 37.94%, achieving an energy-saving rate of 50.14%," said the Deputy General Manager of the Norport Exhibition Company.

>>Design Of Facade

The design process involved analyzing the energy consumption and daylighting performance of different facades, window-to-wall ratios, and shading designs. This analysis led to the development of facade design schemes for each orientation that exhibit continuous variation while maintaining harmonious unity across the building.

>>Conference Center Roof

The pure black solar glass photovoltaic panel is installed on the metal roof of the exhibition area on the north side and the skylight courtyard roof of the hotel podium on the south side, totaling an area of 14,000 square meters. The undulating shape of the solar glass panels on the conference center roof integrates with the staggered heights of the theater roofs. Arranged in a modular fashion, each solar glass panel is combined at the most efficient angle to optimize sunlight exposure and architectural aesthetics, forming a dynamic and layered feather-like appearance. The modular design of the solar glass panels allows for good ventilation and airflow for rooftop equipment units, while also significantly reducing construction costs.

>>Hotel Lobby Skylights And Awnings

The hotel lobby employs sloped solar glass with varying levels of transparency for its roof design, improving natural lighting and ventilation in the deep podium area. The angle between the roof and the horizontal plane is carefully adjusted to balance power generation efficiency and indoor spatial perception. After simulating and comparing various levels of light transmittance, a 40% light transmittance solar glass was selected to achieve the optimal balance between interior transparency and shading requirements, creating a comfortable indoor environment. The skylight glass consists of triple-laminated, two-cavity tempered ultra-clear glass, with solar cells located in the outer laminated glass, effectively absorbing solar radiation and providing thermal insulation to reduce air conditioning load.
