TERLI CdTe solar glass building materials (BIPV) are efficient and environmentally friendly solar photovoltaic materials widely used in various photovoltaic buildings. Unlike conventional photovoltaic components with single or double glass structures, CdTe solar glass building materials for photovoltaic buildings require more flexible and complex structures to meet the requirements of different application scenarios, usage functions, and installation heights.


According to different application scenarios, usage functions or installation heights, TERLI CdTe solar glass building materials can provide various customized services such as glass thickness, transparency and patterns to meet architectural design requirements. Based on the proprietary CdTe Thin-film Solar Cell Technology's advantages in properties and application scenarios, TERLI has positioned itself in the field of building-integrated photovoltaics. As of now, we have developed eight major categories of CdTe solar building materials products, including curtain walls, roof tiles, bricks and railings, comprising over 50 varieties suitable for different building application scenarios.

"Flower of New Energy"——Wuhan Research Institute


Inside the Wuhan New Energy Research Institute building, there stands a low-energy, pollution-free BIPV Ecological Building that harnesses natural resources such as water, wind and solar energy. Inspired by the Calla Lily, symbolizing the "flower of Wuhan's new energy," it serves as the iconic structure of the future technology city in Wuhan. The building comprises "one flower, five leaves and one bud," drawing inspiration from the blooming calla lily. Spanning across 165 acres with a construction area of 68,000 square meters, it is currently China's largest green biomimetic building.


The project draws inspiration from nature, with its roof boasting 3,500 square meters of CdTe solar glass building materials, capable of generating approximately 300,000 kilowatt-hours annually, accounting for 25% of the building's annual energy consumption. This leads to a yearly reduction of over 290 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The flower plate is carefully designed at a tilted angle of 20° towards the sun to maximize solar absorption. The "stamens" on the flower plate consist of vertical axis wind turbines with high efficiency in electricity generation. The large tilted flower pots serve not only for solar glass power generation but also aim to store rainwater for various purposes such as flushing toilets and watering plants. Rainwater collected and processed in the rooftop garden can be utilized for sanitary facilities, firefighting, and plant irrigation, saving up to 4,800 tons of water annually. The building's stem axis is equipped with a thermal tower, and the cold beam system utilizes the principle of air exchange between hot and cold air, providing natural ventilation for the building. Incorporating ten advanced energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies, this building exemplifies sustainable architecture at its finest.

Green Buildings that “Breathe" - 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Expo


The China Pavilion at the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Expo, located at the endpoint of the Landscape Horticulture Axis in the core scenic area of the Expo, occupies one of the most important positions in the entire park and is one of the most significant buildings of the Expo.


The steel-structured roof of the China Pavilion is adorned with 1,024 pieces of CdTe golden solar glass of varying sizes, perfectly adhering to the architectural form and enhancing solar energy absorption efficiency. These solar glass building components not only fulfill the functions of regular transparent roofs and curtain walls, such as maintenance, heat insulation and aesthetics, but also generate electricity, embodying the transition from passive energy conservation to active power generation in green building concepts. Additionally, they ingeniously integrate with the roof and curtain wall components, seamlessly replacing traditional curtain wall glass and truly realizing the substitution of photovoltaic glass for architectural glass.


The project utilizes various green technologies such as solar photovoltaic technology, making the China Pavilion a living, breathing building. It successfully passed the assessment for green building certification and received a three-star rating for green building certification.

"Wings of the Future" - A forum for the world's top scientists


Shanghai's first approved ultra-low energy consumption public construction project and the country's largest ultra-low energy consumption public construction project's permanent venue for the world's top scientists is located in the International Innovation Collaborative Zone of Lingang New Area. This project is a large-scale ultra-low energy consumption public building of nearly 100,000 square meters. It is the first of its kind in the country. It has achieved a major breakthrough in large-scale ultra-low energy consumption public buildings and is of great significance in promoting the large-scale construction of ultra-low energy consumption buildings in Shanghai and even the country.


The general contracting and design units have installed 16,140 pieces of CdTe solar glass building materials of various sizes (approximately 14,000 square meters) on the metal roof of the conference center and the skylight roof of the hotel podium. These materials serve to provide thermal insulation while maximizing solar energy absorption, achieving maximum photovoltaic installation capacity exceeding 1.3 MW and an estimated annual power generation of about 1.4 million kWh, resulting in an annual reduction of carbon emissions exceeding 1,300 tons. "We calculated that the energy consumption of the entire building has been reduced by 37.94%, achieving an energy-saving rate of 50.14%," said the Deputy General Manager of Nuoport Convention & Exhibition Company.


Viewed from above, the overall shape of the conference center resembles a pair of outspread wings, symbolizing "the wings of the future and the convergence of scientific light," while also embodying Shanghai's inclusive urban spirit. The aesthetically pleasing and uniformly Colored CdTe Solar Glass Building Materials on the roof complement the overall appearance of the main building, the conference center, and the two towers, enhancing the technological and green attributes of the entire structure.

Green Energy With Eastern Charm - Hangzhou National Edition Museum


Hangzhou National Edition Museum, located on the east side of the Liangzhu Ancient City Site, was designed by the team led by China's first Pritzker Architecture Prize winner and professor at the China Academy of Art, Wang Shu. The main pavilion's sunshade corridor and skylight roof mainly utilize efficient and environmentally friendly Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) solar glass.


The project breaks through the use of various ultra-long sizes structures such as 3860mm, 3950mm, and 4470mm, totaling approximately 300 pieces of high-transparency CdTe solar glass. The slender and transparent solar glass, coupled with the Oriental-style eaves, fully demonstrates the artistic beauty of the glass. It not only harmonizes with the main pavilion's appearance but also meets the building's daylighting needs while continuously supplying green electricity to the venue.


According to statistics, the photovoltaic installation capacity exceeds 90 kW, with an annual electricity generation of about 90,000 kWh, equivalent to reducing nearly 90 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Through CdTe solar glass (BIPV) technology, each building is transformed with the goal of deep integration of architecture and photovoltaics, achieving net zero energy consumption and net zero carbon emissions. Starting from the design concept of inheriting historical culture and showcasing modern green technology, the aim is to make the buildings vibrant and breathable. By organically integrating buildings with photovoltaics, comprehensive experiments are conducted on various types of building-integrated photovoltaic technologies, exploring new technologies in photovoltaic energy storage and flexibility, and demonstrating the technological pathway to solar-powered zero-carbon buildings.
